| If your looking to improve your skills, the best thing is start with auto-x. From there you'll learn to control and find the limits of your car. It will even make you a better more cautious driver, you'll learn to look ahead and see problems much more in advance. Go for any driving couse that will fit your budget, what more can I say but... seat time, seat time, seat time.

| well for starters do you want to learn to drift? or run in auto-x, if you want to learn either way go to a BIG parking lot, if you want to learn to drift or spin recover, go when it has rained for alittle bit where the pavement is slick, and throw the car into a spin and recover asap, if you want to drift try to let the rear slip out from behind you and hold it if you can, it'll take sometime to learn how to hold it right. now with auto-x its all about cornering so go to that same BIG parking lot set up some cones and go around them Last edited by Zor : 12-08-2003 at 07:44 PM. |

| ima go with seat time on this one, autocross is a close second. car control with the local BMW club would be a good place to look to as well, i know our local chaper has a "dynamics" clinic everynow and then on a runway oppisete the autox

![]() around here, there is no such thing as a BIG parking lot. well, there is, but the ****ing city laws require all lots to have so much 'natural area' for X number of spaces. So there are far too many obsticles in my way ![]() my old HS parking lot is a nice size, but it had damn natural areas and too many light poles to be able to do anything other than donuts. if any of you Raleigh NC people read this, inform me of some huge, out of the way, wont get bothered by the cops, parking lots in the area... |

| thanx for the comments, but the parking lot thing in fl might not fly because the cops here are asses. can you elaborate on seat time and can dado chime in and comment on the two questions i asked about the suspension setup and time put in. ![]()

| I got a question about the parking lot thing. It is illegal right??? And does anyone know what happens if you get caught by the cops trying to practice drifting. In other words, do they tow your car for reckless driving or do they just give you some crappy ticket???? I wanna know this b4 my friend and I take his Rx-7 TT....since it did start raining in sacramento now. Any help would be appreciated....oh yah...i'm a noob Raman B. |

| Man...that kinda sucks because I can't do it on public lots...and all the private lots are too small. I don't want to do it on the roads...we do have some bad ass roads here but i'm 19 now and more mature. I did my fare share of street racing when I was 16...stupid...I know...but hey it's a phase... Well seeing that I can be caught fairly quickly....what time do u guys think is the best time to try it....like late late night (12-2am) or early early morning (4-6am)....cuz at noon there's too many people. |

| what exactly are you looking to do? just practice your drifting? if you want to be legal about it, go to an open track day at a local road course track. my advice? join a car club like BMWCCA, they sponsor many track days around the country. get out on the track, get some good seat time, learn the limits of you car, how to control it on the edge, get the seat of the pants feel for it. if you dont mind risking it a bit, like most of us here stick to the backroads. Have some fun with your car.

I'm more into both...drifting and auto x 1. The nearest track is in San Francisco.....kinda far for just a couple of laps around a track. 2. I don't have my BMW yet...so I can't really join the BMWCA thing. 3. It's not my car....it's my friends car. Sure he's letting me try stuff in it...but def. won't let me push it like he will....My car is an Accord...so no drifting for me. If this posts sounds like i'm bitching...I'm sorry...I'm really not...I'm just explaining my situation...just depressed cuz it's my friends car and not mine.... I'm not getting my car (hopfully a e36 m3) for may be a month or two...still raising up money...don't want my parents to pay for my car. Last edited by NarutoRamen : 12-08-2003 at 11:34 PM. |

| I think that ICE RACING or snow driving in a rear wheel drive car would allow you to practice drifting. I have been drifting my Benz around the NY metro area since Saturday due to the foot of white that came down. I have always driven rear wheel drives in the snow and I feel it helped me with my car control skills. How about a dirt oval, world of outlaw style? That is just one big drift connected by 2 short straights.J/K IMHO, The easiest way to lean how to hang the ass out would be for you to start autocrossing, you can practice drifting there a little. Your times will be slower since drifting a turn is not the fastest way around but you will have legal access to a parking lot, and lots of run off room if you spin. Remember: IN A SPIN BOTH FEET IN(Brake and clutch)
