today: my day

this is a community, right?...

It has taken me just a few months shy of a year to do this but I finally picked up my new 05 today! I gotta say, though, I'm not exactly sure how to feel right now. The car seems awesome, of course, but its sad in some ways because its not my car anymore. Since the updates that have been worked out for the 05s, it is supposed to be faster (which is quite noticeable, actually, even thought its only...what was is, 7 horsepower?) it feels different. The clutch feels a lot softer and lighter, for one, and I can't figure out if that's a bad thing or a good thing, yet. Also, they no longer carry the two-spoke steering wheel, which I became very accustomed to because I feels fit my whole meat hooks on 'em and I got a lot of feedback from, because it doesn't meet 06 standards (but it isn't 06 yet???), so that was a bummer. But hey, the glass is supposed to be half full, right?!? I mean, I got a free new car!...well, I can't exactly say free because it hasn't been without any work! I have had to fight with them for almost a full year and had to pay for the first 3000 miles because I "enjoyed the car up to that point", which is really stupid because the problem was still there, I just wouldn't have ever thought that I needed to worry about it, it being a brand new car and everything. Oh, I haven't even explained myself, have I? Okay, well, the situation was this: the lemon law states (this is probably different in each state, but here in CA) that if you take a car in for the same problem 4 or more times within, approximately, a year, your car is legally a lemon. I sure this depends on how old the cars is, of course - you can't try to get a new car out of a pinto that you have taken in more than four times this year because it keeps blowing up when you try to fill it up with gas, for instance. So, I took my car in five times within a year, and made sure to document ever visit I had so that there was no confusion, because the coolant kept mysteriously disappearing. Every time I brought it in, they tried something new to remedy the problem, but came up bump. So, once I took it in for the fifth time, I contacted a lemon law specified attorney and went from there. Now, here I am, almost a year later, about $1400 poorer, and with a new and revamped Cooper S, so why do I not feel victorious? Well, because it still isn’t over. I just found out tonight that they didn’t give me the exact car I ordered, for some reason (they are supposed to give me the exact car that I had, basically). They didn’t give me the rally lights, which was apparent immediately and they said they would take care of it on Monday, but as I left Blockbuster to exchange a movie for my mom because she picked up the wrong movie thinking that it was the right one because it was behind the movie case she wanted to see, when I looked at the roof and thought “futher muck, its black!” I specifically ordered body color roof, and its very important to me because, as I have made clear around these parts, I am not to partial to the black or white contrast roofs, and too many mini owners have that (not that that really matters, but…yeah, to me it does - I gotsta stand apart somehow!).
So, wow…crap, this got really long. Well, I hope you enjoyed my short novel! I just thought that I should explain what I meant by “-02 Copper S-(<line through it) 05 Cooper S”. Why? Well, because my life experience matter so much to you all and I didn’t want to leave you in the dark about an interesting and unordinary that I had today. So, there you go. If this bothered you in any way, don’t hesitate to voice your opinion, for you won’t be able to for long…what?!?

That sucks man. Keep bugging them until you get the car you paid for.

There were many changes but the biggest ones are (For the S) - More HP, Different Gear Ratios, and Different Front/Rear lights. A few new options here and there and for January build cars an LSD is an option.

Good luck on getting that resolved. Your Location says Carlsbad, CA... so you are in the San Diego area?

We should meet up sometime! I am in Oceanside near the San Luis Rey Mission

Oh, sick! I used to live right by there. Up until the end of my junior year, I lived just a stone's throw away from El Camino. What kind of stuff are you into, then, on the driving spectrum? I haven't found any tracks that I can think of around these parts. Maybe you know of some things that I don't and could educate me. Who woulda thought there would be someone that close to me? Small world, eh?

Oh, and apparently everything has worked out, and I was told that they will be able to just paint the roof, which is good! They are also going to install the rally lights and give me the floor mats I ordered without any problems (those two things were left out as well, when I made the order - weird) on Wednesday, so I am almost done with this whole trying experience (don't get me wrong - I feel totally stoked and blessed that it worked out this well!). Now, the thing that I have decided that I am going to do concerning the performance of this new beast (once the warranty is all gone, mind you) is one that I thought of while reading one of the BMW magazines while waiting for my mini to be serviced the other day. I have decided that the first thing I am going to do is replace the roof and all that extra weight (sunroof, moon roof, big 'ol heavy steel or whatever its made out of) with a carbon fiber roof. This should shed a lot of unnecessary weight in a very important part of the car, which should be as low as possible if you're aiming for better handling. I wouldn't keep the carbon fiber design, though, it would be painted body color, of course. So, that is the first on my "to do" list, even before new suspension and whatnot. Does that sound as good to all you, who probably know more than me, as it does to me? It definitely will be a big kick in the pants, financially!
