5 series and VR6 GTi

I'm a bit confused here.

I'm pretty sure a manual 540 is close to a e36 m3 in speed...being a little slower off the line, good kill. It was may have been a 530 who knows....how do u do against e36 m3's?

I've ran against 3 diff e36 M3's. The first one got a car length on me off of a 5mph roll and my nose sat at the rear of her bumper all the way up to 110. Another time was with a modded 4 door e36 M3 and I stayed his tail the entire time while blasting through open holes. I can't remember for the life of me where I ran the third one. The first run was a more honest comparison since it was a clean run. That 5 series I'm sure would have led me had I kept my foot in it.. he was starting to pull a *little* and between 80-120 is where my 6 shines.

I forgot to mention though, we blew by an S4 who later came and sped up to catch up with us after our shenaniggans. At this point we were just doing about 70 and I see the S4's xenons fly up next to the angel eyes and pace em.. the Bimmer dude was a smart man and stayed in his place just like I woulda

Once we get on 66 I punch it.. not letting him nose up to me.. and let off around 125ish. We ride alongside eachother for a bit and I'm eyeing his car a little more.. angel eyes, some kind of exhaust, and very clean. He keeps lurching forward and finally taking off. I throw it back in 3rd and pull him back in nose to nose and hold him completely even from 70 to 120 again. Around 125 he starts pulling on me a little bit and I stomp on the brakes soon as I see 130 coming up and some patches of cars as well. Nice run though. I was wondering how fast the 540's are .. I'm assuming this was mos def a 530 since I was able to hold him for a bit.. though I'm able to waste most 3 series.. I'm a bit confused here.
definitely a 530. although the 540 and m3 are almost dead even on the street, the 540 will pull away on the hwy(i.e displacement).im curious what mods you have on your vr6...from my undertanding they run low 15's /high 14's stock.but since they are so light, im sure chip, intake, exhaust combo would put you in the mid 14's easy.

Re: Re: 5 series and VR6 GTi

Yeah.. that's what I was thinking, a 540 would have alot of top end running power. But I don't think that a 530 would be able to pull from me.. though it was only a *little* bit and he was modded somewhat. My best time as of now is a 14.9 at 96mph. That was really crappy because I couldn't get off the line any faster than 2.4 seconds. And also add to the fact that on that run I was on tires so bald the wires were coming out.. and popped the next day. Smart huh? Too broke to buy new tires but not too broke to go racing.

Your trap speed would indicate you could acheive better times. Dude, that is funny about your tires. The same thing happened to me. My tires were so damn bald.

Hey 14.9 isn't bad for a MK3 GTI VR. Is your car stock or do you have some mods? I tried to hang with a M3 in my Jetta and I got spanked pretty badly. I wished I had my turbo car I love to drive fast. Dave

I'm with ummmm no

I've raced a VR6 GTI in my 99M3 and punished him badly. Unless this car is heavily modded, an M3 is significantly faster, especially once you get past the first couple of gears.

yeah man.. lemme see it. i know it's two totally diff cars and classes, but from my experiences in my modded vr6 vs. stock m3 i've faired pretty well. i'm not gonna even get into the arguement of "what if i mod my m3 too?" cos we already know where that's gonna go. i think that if i can cut out of the line a bit faster i can hit a 14.6 at least. usually though the vr's will put out 14.5 timeslips with intake/chip/exhaust.

I have that video. It's hillarious. "Umm no," I must have showed it to you. Yeah, these kids in a MKIV GTI VR6 are just cruisin at about 80 to 85 on the highway and they line up with an e36 M3 and both floor it. To say that the M3 destroyed it would be an understatement. It pulled so hard and so fast it makes you wonder if the M3 was stock. Then after the kids realize how bad they get wasted, the start cracking up. I have it saved on my computer, so I'll try to post it later.
