lol, sorry for being such a smart-ass. I am a little bummed out after driving 12 miles on an empty tank only to find out that the 100 octane gas I desired was only available during OPERATING BUSINESS HOURS!!! BAH!!! Yes, "my life is truly wasted" (Fat comic store guy from the Simpsons)

E39Dinan,

I couldn't agree with your definition of rice more. BMW's are about go, not looking dope like Junior in his Honda. Our cars deserve more than giant "Fighter" style body kits, sushi tray rear wings, and garbage can sized exhaust. Now, if one can really prove the NEED for such things, than go for it. But most just look plain bad IMHO. I track my car on a regular basis, so it's built to put power to the ground, handle like it needs to, and stop. The car has no giant wings, cheesy splitter, or crazy body kit. Guess what? It sticks to the ground just fine. Oh, and I also show it a good bit. Know what I hear? "God, it so clean!" "It looks like a BMW should" "It's such a nice change to see a tricked out BMW that doesn't look like a freakin' Jap car" and I heard this at Hot Import Nights!

Oh, and the statement by DJ about car manufacturers not wanting to put aftermarket companies out of business. RUBBISH!!! BMW would love to see everybody who makes bits for their car fade away. I had a long discussion with Bernie Gobmeier (the head of M Cars/ Individual A.G.) and he said flat out that they were totally against what the BMW aftermarket companies. I'm sure Porsche doesn't care for it either, but the Porsche aftermarket is a more dedicated high end market anyway.

I will say this, there are cars here that have body kits, performance bits, and are well turned out. But there are more out there that just look like crap.

Brian

BTW, I have never been to Jimmy540's site. Don't really care to. Bagging on the work people have done is not my style. I'd never say whos stuff I do and whose I don't like. That is low rent. So, don't anyone think that I'm pointing a finger towards them. I'm not. I'm merely stating my opinions.

In HID bulbs, noble gasses do not become ionized, but their electrons jump to a higher energy level, then relax, releasing light and radiation.

Yea, I think my car is rice. But hey, it's one GOD DAMN GOOD LOOKING RICE! And I can't wait to put my carbon fiber roof spoiler on it!

Everybody has a different taste. I don't think people should bash on Jimmy because of his Nightmare section (Although some cars don't belong there). What about that riceboy page bashing all the beaters? I've never heard of anybody complaining about that site. This is internet, everyone has the freedom of speech. Internet will never be able to justify a person's personality because it is all talk. We're all here to share, learn, and have fun, right?! On top of that, we're ALL car enthusiasts why can't we all get along!

Now, a phat system in a car is completely, and I mean completely exempt from EVER being rice, but I do think that throwing on cat sucker bumpers and F1 wings to stock cars is ghetto. Why? Because the factory would have made them that way if the performance of the car was such that it required those aerodynamic mods. If you've pumped up your engine and suspension, then hell, you probably need a lot of that shit to help with performance.

I guess Dinan engrained their philosophy into my definition of rice. Aside from little dinky things like keychains, CF engine covers, and floormats, they don't make anything that does not first and foremost make your car PERFORM better.

So yes, IMHO, more money spent on show than go is rice. I don't care how good looking you think you've made your car. If you get your ass smoked in a race (You know, driving... not showing, which is what cars were made for?), how good are you really going to look?

so since i spent 6,000 on a new paint job, EVO III wing and a Carbon fiber hood, is my E30 M3 now rice?

Congratulations on spending 6K, and it's a good thing you mentioned the price. If I didn't know you spent 6K I'd think you were poor or something, and nobody wants to be thought of as poor, right?

EvoIII wing: It's low enough to the car that it's useful at freeway speeds. So no, that's not rice. Rice is where the wing wouldn't do jack squat at speeds under, say, 120 (Especially if the car isn't able to go that fast anyway)

CF Hood: Read definition. CF hood reduces weight, which increases performance, so no, that's not rice either.

Paint Job: Paint protects the car, so a new paint job is maintenence regardless of cost. Of course, if you painted your car neon pink it would probably be considered San Francisco rice.
