Will E39 Mirrors fit E34?

i was thinking of fitting in a pair of E39 facelift side mirrors onto my E34...

i've asked my mechanic and they said it cannot be done because of the usage of a control module in the E39 mirrors system...

have anyone done this before or can this be done with some mods?
like altering the wiring and by-passing some functions?

i want the E39 stock mirrors cos my are sqaurish and should match the E34...

please help?

why dont you just get the newer style E34 mirrors? they looks almost the same albeit a little squarer. try finding em from a junkyard or something.

or buy mine once i get m3/m5 style mirrors

hmm ,they're not really the same...

i'm really confused cos i think the prefacelift E39 has the mirrors like the facelift E34..
but the pre facelift E39 mirrors are kinda smaller and more "meaty" and "angular"... damn, i don't know how to say it but it's like it's been chopped with a sharp edge..

imho the E34 prefacelift mirrors looks more better than the facelift E34 ones...

hmm, i guess i'll have to go for the E36 M3 mirrors then..

since my mirrors are so old and has those unremovable water spots..

huh?

hmm, how come the models here (malaysia) and also singapore (neighbour) has mirrors that are different for the facelift E39?
they're are squarer... okay i need to go take some pics..
no wonder you guys didn't know what i was talking..

i believe that 1997(actually 1996) to 2000 e39 had different mirrors than the 2001 and up e39. if you look at them from the front of the car, i don't think you can see much of a difference. however, if you look at them up close, they're different.

tom is right, the older e39 mirrors looks somewhat similar to the newer e39 mirrors. the newer e39 mirrors are somewhat similar to the e46 mirrors but a little bulkier i think.

my dad has a 2001 525i, and in my opinion those mirrors are ugly.

personally, I dont like any of the new style mirrors, with the exception of the Z cars and the M cars.
