e39 lsd vs e60 lsd

a friend of mine has an '04 530i e60 (231bhp) and he wants shorter gears. the obvious solution for that, changing the lsd. prob is, it's kinda hard finding one, so we thought of buying an e39 lsd or another one, from an older model of bimmer. does any of you guys know what could fit? and also what ratio is the stock open diff on the car? thanks!
