Dinan Performance Upgrades for E39 525i

Guten Tag,
I really love my 2003 525i (sports package, steptronic transmission) but I'd like to get some more pep out of it and I've been looking at the Dinan website. However, Dinan indicates that an increase of only 13Hp is the most improvement I can achieve for my car (for about $5k).

13 Hp is only about a 7.1% increase (from 184Hp to 197Hp) in power, and it seems that I wouldn't be getting very much "bang for my buck". I'm looking to get at least a 10% increase (without having to spend $10k or more). Any thoughts and suggestions would be most appreciated.

Also, I've heard rumors that BMW has intentionaly under rated the output of M54B25 engine (published output = 184Hp). Has anyone ever put their E39 525i on a dyno to verify the output before and/or after a performance upgrade?

Also, the car is a very nice ride, and I'm surprised at how much throttle is left even at 120 mph.

Vortech/Powerdyne supercharger shouldn't cost more than 5k.

These mods are documented everywhere... M3 cams, M50 inlet (I think M54 is ok for conversion too), ecu... there is a M50 tuning guide online somewhere, er, everywhere!

I fit a 3" CAI to my M52 and it's worse below 3k rpm, I can't even floor it without it just dying in the arse. I have to work my accellerator down firmly. However, after 3k it gets an absolutely crazy roar and goes hard to 6k+rpm. Once I do the exhaust and ECU it should run right.

Hey i also have a 525i i was wondering if you guys think a dinan ecu would do much in hp increase also i was wondering if there are any turbo kits for my car.

Dyno runs are about $50 - $75 for 3 runs. Definitely worth your money for the assurance and peace of mind, rather than guessing. If available, go with a mustang dyno for some accurate results. It's nicknamed the heartbreak dyno because of the realistically conservative numbers it puts out. Dynojets have no load and give you very attractive HP numbers for what its worth. Let us know how it goes!

-I usually advocate suspension and/or tire mods as the most cost-effective way to increase performance. But if you're after just power I would suggest contacting ESS and see if they have a twin-screw system for your car.

Thanks, perfect!! It appears that ESS has a 2001-2003 525i supercharger system for about $6.2k. Output = 290Hp.

I'll contact a dealer.
