540i differential problem??!?!?! Help!!

I have a 1998 540i. At first i was told the drive shaft was bad, so i replaced it. Turns out it was 100% fine! So now the problem turns to the Differential Unit. i am told now that the bearing inside the unit are bad! So i am trying to find where i can buy the bearings?? A new unit cost 1600 dollars! So you see it would save more to buy the bearings, but BMW says they dont carry them.... Any ideas??
