Transmissions....

So I am looking for transmission options for my 92 525i. Correct me if I am wrong, but its a ZF in that car. The only thing I know is that its crap. I haven't dropped it yet, but I am sure I am in need of a new tranny. I have lots of experience with the getrag from the earlier 5s and know they are bulletproof. I also have experience with the old dogleg. I put one in my E28 years ago. Question is will the getrag or dogleg work in place of my ZF with no major mods. Looking for 'plug and play'.

depends on your production month. pre 7/92 yes it is a zf 310z... same tranny as a 95 M3, and actually supposed to be the more bulletproof of the two e34 m50 trannies. Folks running boost with these trannies with no problems, so I dunno why you are having issues other than a poor shifting owner at some point.
Getrag 250s use a different xmember, different driveshaft flange, and guibo, as well as shifter bits.
