I received the supplies I plan(ned) to use to refurb my interior trim. Not sure what everything is for yet, but it looks easy enough to understand.

I bought all of these products from Paintscratch.com. Friends of mine recommended this place for having one of the most comprehensive solutions to paint ships and scuffs. I think what you see above is about 100 dollars worth of product.

In regards to detailing, www.superiordetailsupplies.com is a DTM Power Forum Sponsor and the owner, Dewey, is also a great guy.

You can see his detailing tutorial from our event last year - click on Car Detailing Feature at the bottom of the page: http://www.blackredgold.net/reunion

Also, to be completely honest, I am considering selling my 540 and picking up an E38 with less mileage. My 540 currently has close to 130k miles and requires regular maintenance that is beyond what I feel comfortable putting into a 10k dollar car. The E38 I'm looking at is an extremely well maintained, single owner, car with around 80k miles.

At a minimum, I will attempt some paint work on these mirrors. I feel that unless you can do the full-boat M5 body work, that upgrading the mirrors alone looks odd. In the spirit of saving money and personalizing my car, I purchased a spare set of mirrors with the intention of painting them all silver:

LOL - slower than I expected. This week is spring cleaning in my garage and then I hope to work on the trim.

I close my eyes everytime I enter my garage and feel my way to the car. Works great for eliminating spring cleaning.

Just bought some Depo's, should be here in the next week. Gonna have to pull the trigger on shock spring setup too. I hate spending money. Good thing I like my cars more than money.

Me? I'm not sure. I gave her a good wash and then took her for a long drive. It's easy to forget what these cars are capable when all you ever do is drive from point A to point B.

I agree. I say that you look at F.I. and enjoy her. I looked for e38s for a while before buying my e39, many years ago. The e39 outperforms the e38, but I would not rule it out as another vehicle to have in the stable. Just finish the project, you will be pleased in the end. Trust me.

Depending on how old your E39 is, you may not be experiencing the same issues as my car. Do you have the squirrels? The rear seats sound like I'm a professional trapper and just captured a family of squirrels. Every cupholder has repeatedly broken, the window shades refuse to retract, the list of minor annoyances goes on and on.

This doesn't include the 3k per year in maintenance that I inevitably shell out. With my garage hopefully clean in a month or so, I will have to consider getting a scissor lift and maintaing the car myself from now on. Even with a very honest and fair local mechanic, I don't like spending that much to maintain a car worth less than 10k.

I understand what your saying, James. I have built up hot rods for a while, and very few of them sold for more than what I had in them. the E39 doesnt appear to be any different, but a lot better ride. I think I will have to view this one as if I dont sell it and just slap another engine in it come time, I'll have a cool ride owned outright (once its paid off). Scissor lifts rock!

Maintaining yourself will make the car seem that much more worth keeping. Our e39 has experienced some of the same types of minor annoyances but being able to do them on our own, as time and $ permits has made it easy to live with. Also once I am back in the area I will be more than happy to lend a hand.
