Is it possible to increase the power output for E39 523i?

Hi guys,

It's been a long long time since i visited this forum. Happy New Year to everyone!

After a long ownership of an E36 I've recently acquired a E39 523i with a M52 engine. If I'm not wrong the 523i is running a detuned version of the 525i variant. I'm wondering if it's possible to make the engine output same as the 525i 192HP?

to be honest it's detuned m52b28 engine (528i). And if it comes to m50b25 (525i)- car with b23 is faster 'cause of less engine weight (alluminium engine block)

Oh really, pardon my ignorance. I thought it's a detuned M52B25. But I don't get what "b23" is?

So what are my options if i really want a increase engine power?

m52b23 is your engine- detuned m52b28. I know that header exhaust (I'm not sure that I translated it correctly) from M50b25 installed in 2.8i gives power over 220HP. I think there will be no problem with installing this header in your engine and that should give you over 190HP.
