540i or real M5?

Alrite, a kid at my school claims to have a black M5. The 2000-2005 model or w/e. The one from the BMW films where Clive Owen drives Modanna, im not sure of the right name. Anyways it has the M5 rims, M5 sport package skirts, and bumpers, Even the M5 stick shift knob. But however it does not have dual exhaust, correct me if im wrong but i thought all M5's came with dual exhaust. I have not had a chance to look under the hood yet but i am suspicious because the gauges did not have the chrome M embedding in it. Any help woudl greatly be appreciated, i will try to post pics soon!

I there was an M-Sport package for the e39 540's which is what i would guess it is.

Yeah...all M cars have dual exhaust, well, the newer ones, anyway.

Just look at the VIN. If it starts with WBS it is an M5 since all M cars start with those letters.

But from the fact that it doesn't have quad pipes, I'm pretty sure it isn't an M5 anyway.

Biggest giveways other than the huge M emblem is the dual airboxes.

What an idiot...I hate it when people who don't know anything about cars claim to have something they really don't...I knew this kid from work who claimed to have a turbo, and I went out to check it out (it was a cavalier, btw), and all he had was a cold air intake, lmao...Then when I told him what it was, he said, "Is that good?".

Yeah I know what you mean. This guy I knew thought he had a f'ing supercharger on his Honda Civic, (he said he could hear a slight whistle when he punched it) Turns out it was nothing but an intake.

Anyway, what you need to do is show this kid that he's nothing but a wannabe hard-ass. There's not much more satisfying than proving a dumbass wrong. He most likely knows that he doesn't have an M5, he was just counting on the fact that you might not know anything about BMWs. Looks like he found the wrong guy!

e28 or e34 M5 would have had dual outlet on the left..

e39 M5 = quad outlet

Yea, thanks guys. I'm very impressed with his car, but i dont know why you would go through all that trouble and money making his 540i look so much like an M5 when he could probly just go out and buy one. Oh well, thanks for the help

Uhmm.. fat chance..

200ish 540 can be had for under $20k..

200ish M5's still run you $50k-ish..

I doubt his daddy would be dropping 50 large for him..

But that being said HE probably didn't do squat, other than say "Daddy I want that one", the car is probbaly an M-Sport and it came that way from BMW. And he saw teh //M badge on th e shift knob and thinks it's an M5.
