E28 M5 MAF conversion & ECU piggyback

I presently have a Split Second MAF conversion for my M5. I've been considering using a Perfect Power SMT6 or Megasquirt piggyback system in place of the Split Second ARM1 & ARC2. Does anybody have any experience with any of the above and any words of advice to offer. I am concerned that the Split Second system doesn't refine the tuning enough that I will be able to pass a Maryland emissions test when done.
