| E28 M5 Performance Chips I currently have a Dinan 3rd gen chip in my M5 (079 ECU) but I'm not terribly impressed with it. Can someone recommend a better chip? While playing with different chips in my E30s (M20 & M42) I found that I like the BMP Design chips over Turner and Dinan but it seems they no longer offer them. Any chance that someone has one for the M5 stashed away somewhere that they aren't using? Forgot to mention, mine has an S38 motor, not the M88. TIA, Mike |

| hmmm. I hear the Turner chips give somewhere along the lines of 30+ hp for the S38. Its the biggest gain of any engine, that I remember. Thats odd that BMP doesnt have them anymore, I havent gotten a catalog from them in years. Care to post pics of your car? Im in love w/ E28 ///M5s. Mariano

| Mariano, It just so happens that I called BMP this morning about their chip products and they confirmed that they had discontinued them because all new cars these days use the shark programming devices to download new maps. They did tell me however that the chips were produced by Autoauthority in Alexandria, VA. A quick call to them and I found out I can get a copy of the chip for only $209 which is a pretty good deal. The reason I'm interested in trying that particular chip is that I found the BMP.M20.500 chip to give a better 'seat of the pants feel' than the Dinan or JC chip in my E30 325i. My M5 is a restoration project at this time. It has been at the paint shop for the last four months (not that much of anything was being done to it all that time). I took the day off on Monday to go over there and pull all the trim and bumpers off the car. Glass and gaskets were supposed to be pulled today and a few rust spots around the rear bumper area and the mounting area for the license plate lights need attention. I'm hoping the paint will be done in time for me to take it to Imports Kit Replicas @ Carlisle, PA next month along with a few other E28 M5s from the local area. Mine will still need new seat skins but, hey, it's a work in progress. I plan to post pics after paint is done and again when the interior is restored. I've seen some really nice specimens recently and I'm hoping mine will look as good as they do when it's all done. In hind sight, I could have saved some money waiting for a nicer car to come along but then this one probably would have been parted out and scraped. Like you, I love a really clean M5 and had to save this one. The drive train is in really nice condition so it's not that far gone. Mike |
