URGENT Help Needed 518i

since my sierras engine is toast ive decided that with the money ive saved to fit a new engine im going to buy a different car instead. just got an autotrader today and spotted a 91 518i (E34 i think?) in decent condition.

what i need to know is as the car has 126k on the clock what will need replacing in the future and what should have already been replaced and also what symptoms to look for to steer clear of any engine bother. i had an E30 318i a few years back and it was a good car/nothing up with the engine, am i right to assume its the same engine thats in this 518i?

so with any luck ill be re-joining the DTM community

last but not least.. i know the 1.8 isnt a 6 pot but if i fit an exhaust to this thing will it have that good old bmw "sex from an exhaust pipe" howl?

still hoping to get something BMW. possibly another E30. hoping i could find a 320i as it would be a little quicker than the 318 i had years back and it would sound better and would easily keep me entertained till next year when i go on a hunt for either an E36 325i or 525/540i. this year is sort of like no mans land... i can insure something around the 2L mark but not really anything bigger. next year i could even manage a 540 so next year is all good

Is it the twin cam M42 or the single cam M10? 518s did not make it across the pond.
