| It depends on how the previous owner(s) took care of the car. I would assume that the normal maintenance issues would be all you would have to worry about, not the transmission. For example, my car has over 325k miles on it and the transmission has never been touched except when the clutch was replaced when I began driving the car, but it did not need to be replaced. |

| 325k? thats impressive, what model bimmer do you have?

| '85 535i, you can't kill an E28 (if cared for properly)....and there are more than 325k miles on the car, but the speedometer did not work for a whole summer a few years back and it has had previous lapses as well. It's an awesome car and pretty unique. |

| lol, figured so.. that engine is probably the best or one of the best ever built in terms of longevity.

| my dad's drivin a '97 540 as well (6spd tho). its got just over 112K i think, and it jsut gave him a lot of crap all at once. he got like a 6K estimate from the first guys he brought it to. but i guess it's becuase the computer is so sophisticated that it just shut down stuff that wasn't working properly(sp), which iin turn wore out the stuff taking up the slack. its an amazing car tho, and i love it.
