New to me E34

Hello,

Recently picked up a new-to-me 1992 535i 5-speed. I've owned several 944s in the past so I'm familiar with older German cars, but new to BMWs. I was daily-driving a Saab 9000 CSE (which is for sale if anyone's interested) but really wanted to get back into a manual.

The car has satisfied my desire for a manual German-engineered sports sedan thus far to a great extent. Wonderful car.

However, I really didn't do much research before hand to the degree of which I researched 944s. Yes, I bought one with some extensive records and am taking into a BMW mechanic soon. But in general, I would like to know the basic tenants of owning an E34, basic and normal maintenance, cost of ownership, etc.

Just looking to hear and share experiences with these cars, as it's new to me and I'm fairly excited about it.

ex E34 owner they are good reliable cars if taken care of. I had mine for 2 years before i bought the E36 and it was a great car. 525i , the price of owning one is sustantially cheaper if you do the work your self such as oil change tune up brakes and other minor details. I even changed my head gsket on mine and the car was flawless for the time I had it..

ur a lucky man, i;ve always loved the e34 535s, u have any pics of it.

anyway the engine in ur car as well as the transmission r basically bullet proof. the m30 engine found in ur car is prob bmw's strongest engine

Awesome car, the M30 is strong as hell. Basically just maintain it well and it will run forever.

not only is it strong i think its one of the most commonly found engines in bmw's line of cars. meaning there are usually replacement parts around for decent prices if you know where to look. i love my m30 5speed e34!!
i think its one of the easiest cars to work on that i've owned so far

Electrical problems are very expensive.
