| buying a 1995 E34 540i just wondering if any one can give me good bad info on 95 540i's. it has 95,000 miles, six speed and lots of goodies. i am thinking of buying one that i sfor sale close to me and just wanted some info. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

| Try and make sure that it isnt a Nikasil lined engine. Those were prone to premature wear of the cylinder bores, but if its got 95K miles and its still strong, its extremely doubtful that thats an issue anymore. Nikasil engines appreantly needed serious work at around 30K. I could have my facts mixed up, my dad owns the exact car you speak of so i know a little bit. There is an engine block number that you can look at to tell if its a Nikasil or Alusil block. Can anyone help more? Sorry for the limited knowledge but Im an E30 guy, lol. On another note: COngrats on the purchase, this model 540i with the 6-speed is one of my favorite common BMWs. It has endless, smooth power delivery and feels more torquey than god. Its a real real pleasure to drive. Watch out as if you get too spirited, you can easily forget youre driving a mid sized sedan and the tail wil step out on you. Ask me how I know. Put an exhaust on it and thats all you need. The '95s came with body colored rocker panels and lower front and rear bumpers with the lowered M-technik suspension so it doesnt really need any of that. My dad got some type 42 E39 530i sport rims and it just looks beautiful.

| thanks for the help, im still trying to decide what i want to do. i heard of the engine problem and thats what makes me so nervous. anyway thanks again for the help

| Well, as stated, I doubt the Nikasil problem is there if its got 95K miles. Thats how you can tell if it was affected or if it was an Alusil block. After 50K, you can pretty much tell its ok if its not burning oil like Kuwait in '91.
