540i Front suspension question.. Please HeLp..

I need a little help here.. I have a 2000 540i sport with 60k miles. lately I have been hearing some strange front strut noises. Sounds like the struts are dead but it doesn't feel like it. When ever I go over rough roads the front struts sounds like it's dead, but it feel normal going over potholes. If this is normal for this car please let me know. Thanks

What does "dead" sound like?

My first guess is the front strut mounts?
