Resonator delete on e39 540 ?

On a e39 540/6 What are the pros and cons of removing the resonator. Will it still pass emissions?

pros: reduced weight, slightly louder exhaust note
cons: don't think there is one, unless you think the noise is annoying

it will still pass emission, instead of taking mine out I a got a aftermarket resonator with my cat-back system, the aftermarket one was 1/3 the size

Nothing you change past the Cat will change emissions rating with the exception of creating a leak.

On a side note, anybody done this on a 528?

I have Magnaflow/Car Sound resonator and catalytic convertors on my 540. The resonator provided a nice sound improvement, but the car got really loud when the cats were replaced. The independent shop wanted 2600 bucks to replace both cats, versus around 250 for the Magnaflow.

I will try to take a pic of the stock resonator that was removed. For those who haven't looked under their cars before, this thing is enormous. I would guess at least a 15-20 pound weight loss from swapping out the stock resonator.

I will try to get some sound clips as well.

I have a E39 with Supersprint exhaust. Couldn't even hear it. Deleted resonator, now has a small growl to it. Love it.

Hit up Mattkins99 or do a search for him on the other boards....he deleted his resonator and installed a Flowmaster.....sounded like it ate M5's and shit 318's, just mean

Hehe - that sounds about right. That video of the Discovery Automotive M5 sounds meaner, but the 540 does just fine for me.
