e34 525i 24v question!

Could you please help me out ..i`m looking for some pictures of the m50 525 24v engine,more exact some pictures with the front of the engine,where you can see the belt for the air conditioning,water pomp etc.
Have you got any ideas where i can find such pictures?

do all m50s come with 24v?

I dont believe so. The last year a M20 was made was 1990. After that it was M50 even in a 525i which is still 6cyl

Hold on, I thought that all m50s are L6. And considering the fact that it's a SOHC engine, it should only have 12 valves

The engine DTMn2o is talking about is most likely a DOHC

my bad, all of the m50s have DOHC with 24v. Just check the BMW performance faq section

There are 3 types of 2.5 engines on the E34, the first was the 170hp /5800rpm (1988-1990) it was 6/OHC ; the second 192hp /6000rpm (1989-1992) it was 6DOHC and the third 192hp /5900rpm (1992-1996) also a 24v DOHC like the second but with variable valve timing i think it`s the only difference between them,and probably also the Vanos.

I probably have the variable valve timing as well, I think. Could this explain a rapid acceleration when I pass 3000 RPM? This happens in every gear, except for the 5th.

I have a 1992 M50. How can one tell if it has the variable valve timing?
