E36 M3 vs. E34 M5 vs. E31 840i

Just wondering what the good, the bad and the ugly are for the E31 or the E34 mentioned in the title line... I know as much as I need to know about the M3... its just the other two models that I have no clue about.... How reliable are they? How practical are they? What are the current owners saying?
