*Anyone try Side EXit exhuasts yet? * Has anyone experimented with side exit exhuasts? It would be a solid day of work in the exhuast shop, but I think if you use some nice cylinder mufflers, and 2.5-3" SS it can be toned down but still sound ridiculous, and most likely have a tad of gains. For FI it would help moreso. I think it would be pretty cool, since its already being used on a bunch of club and pro racers, It would be something to look into. Anypone who has pics, or even better videos of such a setup either on street or some club cars, please post them. Thanks ![]()

If you're talking about what I think your talking about the exhaust would be too close to the gas tank and sit too low. If you removed the tank, you;d have no problems. Kinda looked into it a while ago.

| What Portal said is correct. Every and all race cars we deal with have there standard gas tanks removed, replaced by a fuel cell that is "supposedly" more fire retardent and are much lighter. It is also put into the trunk so there is no way for anything to hit it. If you did a side exit exhaust on a non-fuel cell car, you would run a HIGH risk of making the gas tank too hot, igniting it. I don't think that would be good... Wes

The gas tank on my vw's is under the trunk area, right over the exhaust, and they have no problems in the past 15 years....I'm sure you can route it to be safe. And GirtzB how come it would only be usefulk on a v8 or v12 ???

Side-exit works with any configuration.. BMW did this back in the day with S14 4Cyl E30 M3 race cars. Here's the only street car i know with it, but again, it has the Fuel Cell replacing the gas tank. ![]() He also has the other coolest mod out there.. onboard air jacks (~$4k from AP Racing) ![]() DTM car.. ![]()

Thats Alex for ya Thanks for showing Side exit is used in many cars, even 4cyl touring cars over seas use em. And about the quickjacks on a street car, thats just ridiculous! The $4K system is not the standard setup, the standard setup is about $2K of components, maybe $4K with custom subframe mounts for the install...needless to say it ispretty cool, useless, but cool. Also on that car you posted, his rear "stress bar" looks like a but nmuch haha ![]() Last edited by LITEWAITM3 : 06-04-2003 at 10:23 AM.

Yea its definitely a sick car, but I am guessing weekend tracker, or show car since it has all those "race oriented" parts. Would be pretty handy though... but you have to either carry around or have access to a powerful aircompressor ![]()
