STI vs regular WRX

hi,
i have a friend looking into a WRX, he just doesnt know whether to dish out 32k for the 300hp STI or like 25k for the regular wrx... i know with like 1grand you can get the regular wrx to like 270hp.

i told him i thought the sti had a better interior (although both are cheap)..

what do you guys think??

similar to a 325 and a m3, you can build a 325 to beat an m3, but it will never be an m3.....

go for the STi

if your friend can get it for only 32k then by all means get it... but my friend was quoted 7000 dollars over the msrp.. so i don't know where you are finding it for only 32k. dealers are marking them up like WHOA.

STi. Of course you can get a WRX to be as fast as a STi but will it have warranty?

oh i think we just looked at msrp... he was going to wait about 6 months and let the market cool off from the STI's, which is another factor- the waiting time

but think how cheap regular WRXs will be when Sti's hit the streets, another factor to consider

Tell him to wait for the STi. Why? Look at it this way, there is a price difference of 7g's from the WRX to STi. If you mod the WRX with that 7 grand, it still wont have all the great things like the STi. Like a strong ass 6 speed tranny, 500 more cc's, Stock BBS rims, Prodrive Spoiler, bigger turbo, brembo brakes, HID's, and tons more. I even havent touched the electronic goodies. So ya STi!

MSRP for WRX is 25. MSRP for STi is 32.

look around and youll find a deal like i did. 22k 03.

try to get an STi right now, get it for upwards of 40.

In Japan, the new STi is still a 2.0liter turbocharged vehicle. Rally cars are supposed to have 2.0-liter engines and not 2.5-liters. In order to compete with the Lan Evo 8, the STihas to make 300hp in order to TRY to beat the Evo. Useless. Its 300 hp is only faster than the 271 monster by 0.1 seconds. No point in buying a STi. Waste of money for a fake STi anyway. Ur getting a bigger engine in an STi body. That's like buying the Impreza 2.5RS turbocharging it and putting an STi body kit on it.

Yes from a purist standpoint the STi (USDM) is a bastard freak (what a wonderful freak), but in the end it is not a 2.5 RS with money thrown at it by some random tuner. Its a factory built, warranteed, and tested/proven car. It is still faster than the EVO (0.1 seconds is still faster). And there is no replacement for displacement. You throw the same amount of money at a small motor or a big one, the bigger one will 9/10 come out ahead....

Further, the STi gets all the best in terms of differentials and tranny compared to the EVO...

They made the "fake" STi a 2.5L for it to pass emissions. No way it could pass it using a 2.0l with 300hp.
