BMW flipped - no one hurt - pics (56k beware)

Well being Sunday and nice weather I decided to go for a quick ride out into the more country parts of my area. I hit a few backroads and then all of a sudden I see this car upside down on the side of the road... as I pass by I see its an E30 BMW. I had my camera with me so I stopped to take some pics.

As I was taking the pics 2 guys came up towards the car. I asked them if they knew whos car it was and they said yes, that it was a friend of theirs. One of those 2 guys was in the car when it flipped. He told me he was the passenger, not wearing a seatbelt. He said they were only going about 15mph around the turn and the driver lost control somehow (oversteered perhaps?) and then hit the ditch.. gassed it, and the car flipped. He said it flipped 2 times.. but from the pics it appears to only be once. But im not an expert.
The passenger said he was knocked out for a little while. The driver was perfectly fine. Both people in the car were eventually OK -after the passenger came to that is. But nothing more than a bruise..
The pics speak for themselves i think. The bimmer held together pretty damn well.. esp for being so old. He said it was a '89 325i. But in the pics you see an M badge. When i took the pics i knew right away it wasnt an M, since it wasnt a widebody. so i got a good chuckle out of that.

Anyway.. here they are.

Damn that car had almost NO damage for what it went through!! They could have turned it back over and driven off!

My sister flipped her car ('00 Jetta) and the car saved her life, the roof caved in only a small bit, but held her and her 2 passengers safely in it, everyone came out with only a few bruises and scratches.

yeah, what im amazed about is that the passenger didnt have his seatbelt on and was able to walk away.. after he 'woke up'. but he has just a bruise or 2. .and thats it.. i was pretty shocked...

There is more to it than they say...the car seem to have been going a bit faster than 15 mph, when off the road, on the way down creamed the front bumper, then cut right in the grass, the front left tire dug in and since the car was jumping like a kangaroo on the grass, it hit it just right to keep the momentum going and roll it. I am glad they OK.

Looks to me that the driver took off around the corner, and drifted in over the line (look at the marks) then he overcooked it with too much oversteer, overcorrected, and went down into the grass, where he slide for some distance sideways, until the 2 drivers side wheels dug in, and the car rolled over once, landing on its roof.

IMO the driver was a dumbass, and they werent going all that fast, prolly top end of 1st, low of 2nd.

judging from the marks on the road alone, it looks like they were screwing off, the accident being a direct result of this. so no pity here.

besides, he has a giant single tip can on his exhaust, and a ///M badge, the car was already "wrecked" anyways lol

yeah i agree that the car was going a bit more than 15mph.. but not much more... if it were going faster it would have drifted the other way.

yes, i believe he was screwing around. i mean.. anyone who puts an M badge on their car and a single tip on the exhaust doesnt know how to drive and thinks they are just 'badass'...

i didnt get to talk to the driver.. but from the looks of his passenger and his friend that came to the scene.. he looked like one of those "im badass" kids...

im just still amazed no one was hurt.. i mean, seeing it in person.. wow.. they are lucky

I have given up on trying to diagnose car accidents. One night on the way home from the street races (a while back, I don't go anymore, too many n00bs), we came upon a car that had JUST flipped. I mean, the wheels were still turning and the passengers (3 of them) were still in the car. The car was in the center-divide on it's roof. Anyway, long story short, they were drinking. So, the smart-a** throws his bottle 15feet from the road (like the cop won't see that) and asks for a breath mint (the beer had already soaked into the headliner). They were f*cked. But what I don't get is how they actually crashed... From the way the car was positioned, they woudl have had to have flipped twice and spun a 180 as well, but the car (a Carolla) wasn't that damaged.

a buddy of mine flipped his Turbo Thunderbird(turbo coupe). He was going around a rotary and once he saw his exit he ripped it and flew up it, when he got to the top his ass end kicked out and when he righted it, it went the other way then the tires caught and flipped him over twice and landed on the other side of the highway. He was ok but the car wasnt, and the shitter about the whole thing was that when the cop showed up they gave him a ticket for being on the wrong side of the road.

Since Tim is always so busy at work, I will post a pic of his old 320i that he flipped once and rolled twice. There was three people in the car and everybody walked away.

duuummbasss <-- no offense... they were screwin off tho...

this is what happens when tekademics style antics go wrong...

soemtimes people just get lucky... when i was on ski team, people used to hold ur belt, and with the other hand pull it all the way out so it starts racheting... so a minute or two later its tight as hell... ist for strapping in child seats... we used to call it "jail belting"

anyways leaving montana downhills, we were all screwin around doin that so after a while u just didn't put it back on and then you wouldn't get jail belted again... seemed smart at teh time...

8 hours later we hit black ice goin 85-90 mph (on the limiter in e-350 van), slid sideways into the ditch and rolled 7 times... i started in the 3rd row and ended up on the roof right behind teh passenger seat... the girl i was next too got pinned under the end of the seat so she looked like she was laying on teh floor looking down at me, while i was laying on the cieling looking up...

miraculously only one person got seriously hurt, out of the 14 in the van.....

but what i was sayin is, sometimes you jsut get lucky, so you have to realize it happened, and be smarter next time.

P.s> the damage on these cars is nothing, our van the roof rack came off sidways, crushed the roof in to the seats, which exploded all the windows out because the sides pulled in. 2 of teh seats tore out of the floor, and the rear axel was torn out of the van. ^^^ carnage
