that's this car!

http://www.symbolicmotors.com/frames...97McLaren.html

I stopped in at symbolic and it just came back from the paint shop, where they were respraying it in the livery colors. It was literally jaw dropping to see a car of this caliber in person

No no no... S70/2 was single vanos. The engine was put into production in 1993. They didnt have double vanos technology back then. The car above is a gtr and has a detuned version of the S70/2. I always thought that even when the car went OBDII it remained single vanos but it looks like in 1996 it was giving double vanos and the engine was called the S70/3.

I'd agree with Alex. E46 M3 tranny = way more advanced, technologically speaking.

HP capability doesn’t = advanced.
i would have to disagree. i know HP doesnt = advanced. you dont have to tell me that.

you got to think about hte technology they had in 97, what we see on the streets now is coming from lemans and such.

lehman-- i do agree with in that relative for its time this is a very advanced gearbox, but timeline aside the SMGII is the more advanced box. But that's not saying much, its 2001!!! Anyway, lets drop it. I think we're saying the same thing just in different ways.

Uh i'm not sure what we'd charge for a S70 rebuild.. i'd have to ask my dad lol.

No - The SMG in the M3 is the same gearbox as is in the 6-spd but without all of the fancy Hydrolics to do the shifting. So if you knew how to play with the electronics for the SMG, you could get it to skip to any gear you wanted.

There is an ad for this car in the Autoweeks now. BMWNA needs to snatch this up and add it to its collection (and store it at PTG )

Beautiful car.
