Angry Carlisle Custom Compact Nationals CANCELED?!?

http://www.cumberlink.com/articles/2...ews/news01.txt
Can you believe this? I didn't think it was that bad..Yeah, it was bigger than last years show, but the cops had everything under raps all day and night... "Estimated area authorities issued about 300 citations for traffic violations and other infractions." You cannot tell me that Carlisle will not have the Compact show next year when just the price of the show a day is 15 bucks. 30 dollars times about 40,000 people = a boat load of $$$$. The town needs this to happen so they get all that money.

What do you guys think of this? Bullshit or reasonable?

I'm not sure if it will stay canceled...there's a chance that it will be there next year. If so, I'm there. This was my second year going, and it is a lot of fun. (I like to see all of the RICE that is there...some of these kids are really riced out, like the 'hondakiller' neon, no to mention that me and my buddy in his s2000 killed him on the road. Honda Killer WHAT?!?"

i was there too and i really didnt think it was all that bad... and 3/4 of the things they pulled people over for were very minor infractions just to make money... i hope they have it again... its a great show even though its mostly riced out hondas

I guarentee if the show was all euro cars the same thing would've happened. Everybody likes to speed no matter what car they own, so don't say that the "ricers" ruined it. It was the immaturity of the people that attended that ruined it - and the cops giving out tickets.

why is everything always blamed on the ricers? at a carshow like that, everyone acts stupid. dont point fingers at an entire category of cars/drivers.

Here is the press release

Quote:
2003 Carlisle Custom Compact Nationals
The Carlisle Custom Compact Nationals is eliminated from the annual schedule of events held at the Carlisle Fairgrounds.
The third annual Carlisle Custom Compact Nationals (CCCN), presented by Quaker State, was held May 2 -4. More than 40,000 custom compact car enthusiasts gathered at the Carlisle (Pa.) Fairgrounds to show off and look at 3,300 show cars, as well as buy and sell accessories and modification parts. The weekend thunderstorms predicted early in the week never materialized and the weather was beautiful. Check out the winners' list.

Unfortunately, the behavior of a small percentage of show attendees led to significant disturbances both on the fairgrounds and throughout the community. The completely unacceptable nature of this behavior has resulted in the cancellation of future Carlisle Custom Compact Nationals at the Carlisle Fairgrounds. We feel tremendous sadness for the majority of show attendees who are losing the best show of its kind in the country because of the actions of a few.

The decision to cancel the show was announced during a press conference on Monday, May 5th. Click on the following links for a transcript of the press conference (PDF-103k) and the post-event press release (PDF-132k)

We remain committed to supporting the growth and development of this section of the automotive hobby and, in the future, we hope to reintroduce a show for those involved, but it will not be held in Carlisle.

We want to thank the 10s of thousands of you who supported us last weekend with your respect for our facility and our community. It is truly a shame that this show cannot continue for you.
