Learning about Mechanics

Yo to all you guys who do all your own work on your cars or most of the work anyway. How did you get started, I really want to know about my car and want to be able to fix it myself and be able to pick out problems as they occur myself. How did you do it is there a book you read or another solution. I really want to teach myself this as the skill is priceless. Thanks guys any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

i'm taking a class on general auto mechanics at a local community college for cheap. i've learned a WHOLE lot, and u have the option of continuing for another semester and getting a degree in it, but i dont plan to.

another option is books and stuff, but there isnt any hands on. also, make friends with the owner of a small repair shop in town. i know an owner of one in my area and i go help him out sometimes. ya learn a lot from the pros

ur right it is a priceless skill. plus theres nothing like being able to pop the hood of a friend's car thats making a weird noise and tell him exactly whats wrong with it good luck

yeah, i also im in a engines class in my local community college. i have learned alot.

engine diganostics
taking apart engines
engine theory
machining parts (grinding valve seats, refacing valves, boring, cam degreeing, etc....)

lots of fun and great information. i higly recomend taking a class like this.

next year im taking break/ suspension. should be fun
