radar not wrokin well no more... these Pos are pacing and stuff.... got a speeding ticket last night... wasnt even tryin to speed.. just got sooo tired... anyhow long story short... what scanners are good? i heard that california police are goin digital and teh analogs are useless... is this true? this y all the analogs are dirt on ebay??/ let me know what to get, thanks....

so i am wondering, the old bct12 picks up police transponders, when all teh cops switch to digital, does the whole unit not work or u can still get the police transponder signals but u cant hear that.. wonderin if its worth to pick up some old crap instead of spedning 600 bucsk for the digital unit...

BCT-7, more features than the bct-12, but bulkier. You can program your own channels and it has a wider range in frequency. That's what I can remember.

yea but what happens when they all go to digital? does the old model still pick up signals but not the talking? i live around the bay area, cali ... anyone know whats goin on here?

no you don't, it's all digitally encrypted. You will hear like a modem noise.

Just a curious note here, but what exactly is a freq. scanner going to do for you in reality? I have a bearcat that monitors 2 dispatch channels, all 5 fireground main freqs, all 7 sub freqs for mobile units in addition to the state police and 3 countys worth of sherrif and select local police. I also have a motorolla MT-1000 handheld 2 way on the floor with my own personal unit designation. Absolutly none of this in any way helps me avoid units on speed detail. It is rather nice though when I do get pulled over, you know explaining to the nice officer that I'm not just Joe Motorist but 2nd Lt. Joe Motorist, FASTeam member and all around nice guy. Saves me a lot of hassel.

Well for one in a smallish town such as mine. You can find out the general area of most of the action and steer clear. Also you can hear cops call you in as possible racers/drunks/etc. Know if they have cars waiting to intercept you. Its not going to help a whole lot if a piggy is just sitting there shooting radar but they call in their location so often you will probably be able to get their patterns figured out pretty well after a couple nights of driving.
