Steering Wheel and Rims Shaking

I got some 18's on my car that shook alittle bit when I first got them. Then I needed new tires so I got them and 3 months later it was time for them to be rotated and balanced so I took them back and got it done, but now my steering shakes bad over 60 miles an hour when the wheel is not perfectly straight. Anybody have this happen to them I am guessing I might need a alignment but wanted to see if anybody elses knows what the problem is. Thanks

whoever balanced them did a piss poor job... take it back

I kinda though that could be the problem but my wheels shook before but nothing like they do now so I just figured I need an alignment. But I am going to take it back get it balanced again. Thanks for the help.

Could be bent front rims. Even a slight bend can cause problems, especially above 60. When you take them in have them pull the tires off of the rim and check it. Keep your fingers crossed that its just out of balance.

More than likely, if the alignment doesn't do the job then you have bad tie-rods. Happened to me. Its not a bad fix, although it will run you over $100 maybe even double that. Sorry for being so vague, but its been a while since I did them, so I don't really remember. I had the EXACT same problem you are describing though.

Only other thought, Are you SURE you are not rubbing?

it could be that you have just hit a curb or something, go see if your alignment is off

yeah, bent wheels, bad tie rods, control arms... do you also get any clunks, noises... jack up each wheel, and try wiggling them, see if there's any play. push them in, pull towards you, and also try turning them.. all this after you've made sure your wheels are properly balanced. i've had tire shops, and even the dealer mess up on balancing, even tho it sounds like a mondane task.

I dont think they are bent because I had some nails in my tires and they had to take tires off and hopefully they would have noticed if they were bent but they might off just said **** it let this asshole ride around on bent rims. I going to check my tie rods and control rods tonight but hopefully the people just did a shitty job balancing them because I can deal with the little shaking they were doing at first but now it pretty bad. Thanks for all the sugestions.
