Car or no car for college

What are the advantages/disadvantages to having a car in college?

Get a car....if u need to run home real quick u can, if there is something wrong at home then u can get there, u can go to the liquer store whenever, same goes with clothes and food. U can go to bimmer meets

disadvantages- driving peeps around, people keying ur car I just tell people i'm not driving them though hehe

I wish i brought a car to school with me this year, but i guess im happy i didnt.. everyone who has a car is 'the bitch' for everyone else, and people mess with them all the time... not worth it to me...

If you have a secure place or a car you dont care about then definately... Next year i am leaving my car in the fire department parking lot very secure and away from all the retards.

I think its great to have a car in college. I can go places whenever I want... roll to the clubs/bars in style, go home and especially make liquer store runs. The best thing is you don't have to walk through campus with a bag full of clattering bottle or bludging 30 rack... you can just drive to the front of the dorm and haul it in . At my college parking is very safe and there is always shit to do, so it is an advantage having a car here... i say take it .

*I go to Providence College by the way...*

i think its better to take it, just get an alarm so you dont have to worry about it getting broken into... up here at WWU a lot of cars got stereos and stuff stolen during fall quarter. it makes getting around a lot easier obviously and you dont really lose much money compared to taking the bus and taxis everywhere.

poguy1028 what high school in Gloucester did you go to?

Just be prepared to have nicks, dings, key marks, vandalism, etc. When college kids get drunk, they get stupid. My VR-4 was keyed, and my Jetta (wtf...) was kicked....
When you park on campus try to get a spot where you can give yourself room. A lot of people don't seem to care or know how to open doors without hitting other cars.
It sounds like there are some ok colleges to take cars to out there, so just ask around your school. Or go take a look at the cars. Are they crappy? Do the kids there take care of them on average, etc...

yea, Im going to MSU next year so I gotta watch out that nobody flips my car over and sets it on fire

But I would take it and just park it somewhere. As long as you dont attract attention to it, your fine. Average shmo dosent know the diff. between a 235 and M3. Im personaly gonna live @ home so ill be fine but you get the point

i brought my jetta to school and its been a lifesaver. I hated takin the goddamn train for 8 hours to get home when i could make the drive it 5 hours. And i found free parking, albeit in the middle of nowhere (at least i dont have to worry about vandalism)

I am going to RIT, and was asking myself the same questions. Apparently there are a lot of car enthusiasts there and they all park in the same spot of the lot (there IS safety in numbers). But then there was the question of all the snow they get, so it looks like I'll just bring my car up there till Halloween or something, then when I come back home for spring break drive it back up for the remainder of the year.
