Airbag Light On

So I've been having trouble with the car battery and had it replaced. But just before replacing it (on my way to the mechanic in fact) my airbag light came on. So now when I start the car, the airbag light comes on for about 2 minutes. The car has 147000kms on it and is a 95 318is. It was in a front-on crash about 5 months ago.

What's up? Can I just reset this or is it broken? Having an airbag is very important to me.

I would have it checked out by someone who can reset it. It's usually something simple. I have had to replace my seatbelt receptacle twice now

I still haven't reset my after my accident............... but I waited to long to pull the srs bulb out, like for a year. I pull it out already, and now the black plating fade away, and I can see the srs light even if the switch is on the off position.......... anyway get a reset tool, or a trip to dealer would do.

Look at the seatbelts. Mine does this, and I've been told its because one of the seatbelts tensioners deployed. If there is no "Stem" on the part that it buckles into, then it may be deployed.

I get the same alert light. My mechanic is too lazy to change the seat belt, so he resets the light. How much is it to replace the seatbelt receptacle?

You don't need the whole seatbelt just the part the belt plugs into they run about $70.00 or you might be able to pick one up in a wrecking yard for 25-30.

So let me get this right. If the Airbag light is glowing dimly it is probably the seatbelt receptacle.

Mine is coming with the key in the on position, then it goes out then it comes on. It is not as bright as the rest of the lamps though.

You got it. The light will come on when the key is in the start position blink off and then come on for two minutes. After the two minutes it goes off. It could be other things, but I had my receptical go out twice.

Cant u just pop out fuse to reset it? And then if it comes back on, u know u have a problem, and get it looked at?

Nope, it will come back on. The only way to reset it is to have a shop do it, or purchase a special tool for about $200.00
