Jim C chip question...

I looking at getting a Jim C chip for my 94 325is, but i have heard that premium high octane gas is required. is this true or is it just recommended? and what would happen if you simply used unleaded...something like 89 octane instead of 92?

minimum 91 octane. I believe the chip is made for 93 octane since they are in the east coast. On the otherhand, a Dinan chip is made for 91 octane.

I have a J.C. chip and I'm in cali with our lame 91 octane. I used to have a dinan chip. I have had no probs with either.

I can't really compare them because I bought the car with the stage 2 dinan chip already installed, and then I installed the J.C. chip because it was calibrated for the HFM I installed.

i have a JC chip and when the Gas attendant put regualr gas in my car it ran like crap. With primuem gas the chip is awesome! i would deff recommend it.

If I remember correctly, the Jim C. Chip is caliberated more for higher RPM Power. Dinan I'm not sure but I think that AA is more mid to upper RPM Power.

AA's chip is also made for 93 octane. I have a Jim C chip and run 91 and love it.

yes, i definately feel the power in the higher rpms with this chip.

wannaBM3, aftermarktet chips are made specifically to take advantage of higher octane fuel. by using regular gas you run the risk of seriously damaging your engine. hopefully you only did that once.

Actually i didnt do it. It was the gas attendant. And its illegal to pump your own gas in Oregon. All i did was installed my old Chip for a while until all the bad gas was out.

I had a dinan chip... i am satisfied with my chip... acelleration is nice.. and top speed is great! with the chip i reached 150 ezly.. on my 96 328i... 1/4 mile time was i think 14. something... oo yea my car is a sedan.... i cant say anything about the jim chip cause i never used it b4.... but good luck!
