C36 Amg?

what do you guys think? I'm looking into this vehicle and to tell you the truth I think its more my cup of tea than an M3. I've always been biased towards Mercs anyway. Also this car i would just drive and not worry about mods or anything, always a plus since i do have a "project car" already.

Anyone know how reliable they are? Any other inputs would also be appreciated.

Try to find a C43. I've always enjoyed the W202 Merc. Bodies, expecially with the AMG package. I know the C36 is really slow.

IMO you should look for w202 c43 or c55. They are much faster then c36.

The C43 is not that much quicker than the C36. That is just a myth. Although the C43 gained a lot of HP and Torque, it also gained some weight and the power didn't carry over all that well to 0-60 times. If you buy the C43, it is for the torque and not acceleration. With the C43, your head will get pressed into the headrest when you hammer the gas at 120 , you won't get that in an C36. The C36 engine characteristics are closer the the E36///M3. It is very smooth. I drive my friend's C36 and I like it very much. They are also pretty bulletproof, but I would get an aftermarket warranty cause parts are a bitch. My friend's C36 is black, lowered, and has tinted windows, and it looks like a straight up "baller's car." However, as a result, my friend has been pulled over many times

I agree with you, no need to MOD an AMG. It is pretty much a car you leave alone, unless you have money comin out your A$$. If your inclined to get a C36, I think it is a awesome car and you should go for it.

1995 Mercedes-Benz C36 6.0 14.5
1997 Mercedes-Benz C36 5.9 14.4

BTW, if any of you guys read the roundel, there was an article of the E46///M3 SMG vs. E46///M3 on a drag strip. They were comparing 0-60 and 1/4 miles times. At the end of the article, the author mentions that they both were beat by their friend's C36. I'm not saying it's a everyday occurence, but the C36 can hold its own.

BTW, the C43 has awesome awesome seats that are done in black and white leather! They are the bomb.

I tested a C32 AMG last year whit my father. But I think that the C36 could be great. But it has less than 354hp....

But if you want a race car, you should buy a M3!!!

i think it was a C32, right? i remember the article, but i don't think it was a C36.

Roundel September 2002:

Page 40.

"Straight Line Showdown"

This is a quote at end of article that was comparing E46M3 vs. E46M3 SMG, "Oh, by the way, we both got beat by a friend in an AMG C36 with an ET of 8.66 seconds."(1/8 mile)

Here were the E46M3 times:
SMG Manual
1/8 mile #1 9.092 8.979
#2 9.121 9.346
#3 9.639 9.408

Maybe the roundel people just can't dirve??

HAHA, I'm not talking about the SMG version. The C36 AMG smoked the E46M3 manual numbers too! Maybe the C36 gets a jump on the E46M3, but C36's 0.8 seconds lead into only a 1/8 mile seems pretty weak for the M3.

If I had a choice between an auto e36M3 and an AMG C36, I would choose the C36 bar none.

I'd definatly go for the C43 if you could find one. My dad had a blk/blk while I was in highschool that I took out once while he was out of town. My buddy Joe and I raced a couple of cars down capital blvd, no one came close. Plus the V8 has a beautiful sound. The C36 is a 6 cylinder with roots-type supercharger right? I guess it would come down to, do you want a big V8 benz. Just my preference though.

No forced induction on the C36, it is naturally aspirated. It is the the 320 engine stroked, bored, and AMG'ed to a 3.6L.

yeah, i found the article this morning. something's fishy- either the C36 was modified or both E46 M3s had problems. almost all the times i have seen put the E46 M3 almost a full second ahead of a C36 in the quarter mile, and it is highly unlikely that the C36 could get a huge jump in the first 1/8th and then lose it in the last 1/8th.
