How many keys did you get?

Hi all,

I was wondering how many keys you got when you bought your car. Specifically, you e36 M3 owners. I received 4 keys with my e46: 2 master keys, 1 valet key, and 1 "wallet" key. The master keys are the only ones that open the trunk and glove compartment.

I'm looking into this used m3, but apparently the owner only has two keys. He says both are master keys, and one of them has an illuminated light.

How many did you get when you purchased your vehicle?

I got 3. 1 w/ a light, one regular basic looking style ,and one in a small leather puoch(valet?)

how hard is it to get additional keys from the dealer? i want another lit one.

not hard at all to get another key. You just need to give the dealer your vin and identification that you are the owner of the car. I think it cost around $30 bucks for the lite key

Dang, only $30? The newer keys cost like $75!

Oh, and as an FYI, for MY 2004 E46's will only come with 3 keys as well - two master and one wallet (no more valet). They are following in the Z4's footsteps or "key"steps, so to speak.

I'm pretty sure I have three. I thought I had two: 1 master, 1 valet, but I found a second master when I was cleaning today. Who knows, maybe there's a forth one lying around.

1 master key - basic key
1 valet key in a leather pouch
1 wallet key - looks like it's made of plastic
2 remotes for the alarm - one has never been used/programmed

I'd be interested in buying another Master key with the light to top off my project.

None of my keys have lights on them, tnen again, both masters have the remote built into the key.

Man, I think I got ripped off! I have one master with a light, a regular master and one remote! I think that I need one other key and one other remote. If I lose that remote I screwed. Do any of you guys know if when you unlock the car and it is locked with the remote, if the alarm will eventually go off? I've never waited long enough to find out.

when i bought mine (used from the dealer) i got 3 one with a light 1 without a light and a vallet key which i lost already
