HELP!!! Need advice
I have a busted ignition on my BMW.
When I go to turn the key the car isn't responding. The wheel is still locked and the lights don't come on.
It's not the battery. Cause when I turn the key u know that click you get in each position you turn well my ignition doesn't do that. I have mad play in that switch.
I had the car TOWED from the worse area of Suitland MD to passport BMW ova night. I had to beg them to look at car the next day. When I called they say I need a Tumbler (what eva the fuc that is) and the housing.
Ok I'm thinkin Lock cylinder and that metal housing the ignition switch is connected to.
They tell me the part is $78 for the Tumbler and $125 for the housing. Will be in on Weds.
But the thing is They want me to pay $365 dollars in Labor. << yea what eva
I don't have that kind of $$$ ends to waist on sum ignition. So
When I went home I looked at the book for the 3 ser and it says.
" Replacement of the lock assembly requires the steering column to be disassembled. This task requires the use of several special tools, and for this reason should be entrusted to a BMW dealer."
I look ova the part for the Lock cylinder (Tumbler I guess is what they call it) and there is only 3 steps to remove it and the special tool is only a 1.2 mm(3/64-inch) diameter rod.
I could skip these steps due to the fact all I have to do is combined the Tumbler with the housing.. and remove the old housing off my steering column. But Only question I have is.
What electrical prob am I gonna run into.. What has to be disconnected besides the battery, and also is this a coded system which need program..??
I'm gonna try in do this at BMW parking lot. To save me time and another Tow fee.
But I am will to tow to another location if the price to fix this simple task is less the $300 dollars.
have anyone eva had this type of problem happen and if so what did you do.
