| CA legislature passes new law concerning vehicle emissions You guys here about the new vehicle emissions law CA just passed. It's going to dictated a lot of things in regards to how cars that are destined for CA dealerships, are going to be made. Automakers are claiming that state legislature is basically dictating how they can make cars.

| i agree so much, about them sucking ass. the whole CARB thing is ridiculous. they wouldn't even give you a lost of equipment you must have on your car to make it SMOG legal, the whole visual inspection is utter crap -- if passes the chemical inspection, why should it still be bad? In Minesotta, they cancelled the smog check, because the gain they would make by going after the violators would be actually smaller, then what they lose by the emissions of the cars idling lined up for the emissions testing. And if you want a fuel efficient car in California, one that gets 49 mpg (VW TDI), well you can't get it. Why? Because its diesel, and only a few numbers of diesels may be sold in the US. So basically what will happen is we will get inoperable cars, as emissions and fuel consumption regulations will contract each other (the Honda hybrid for instance, isn't even a LEV (not just a ULEV) -- because the 3 cylinder engine is actually very dirty).

Also there's the fact that California is a large percentage of the US as a whole, and if a car won't be street legal in California, it likely won't even be imported into the US period. I believe that's the reason we've never gotten the Skyline, lost the Supra, and never gotten many BMWs, VWs and Audis that are available in Europe, but not the US (Audi RS4, the legendary Audi RS2 etc..)

| now i'm not saying the government is right by any means, but the skyline was only not brought over because with the design of the rb20, it made it impossible to switch the steering column to LHD without redesigning the whole front end. it, in time, wouldn't be near cost effective for nissan. but i completely agree with the opinions stated above. there was a post about how bush is doin something about hydrogen research. that's a bunch of crap. bush is oil. car companies have researched alternative fuels for years and years and the government will actually put more money into stopping the companies than the companies would actually make from producing what they research in the first place. the world is going to crap simply because the american government and their oil money. the only reason why they are pushing the emmisions in cali is because putting more restrictions on the exhaust system and various components cause the car to work harder because of the lack of air flow which, intern, uses more fuel. and the reason why they're targeting cali is because that's where the majority of the country's perfromance modification products and ideas come from. think about it. i live in arkansas and i can run a straight pipe on my rx7. no cat, no muffler, just a straight pipe and nothing is said. we have no inspection either. why? because what, if anything, performance comes out of arkansas? |

Sounds like I need to move to Arkansas .....or further north in Alaska....no emissions, and you can run a SCORE truck on the road without a second look from the fuzz![]()

. THAT SUCKS. the only thing they will really get you for is for making an obvious pollution hazard. like when you're filling the cars behind you with a cloud of white smoke. |
