| I just turned 20 a couple days ago and got my 3rd car, a 2000 Audi. I had a 95 Civic when i turned 16, and a 98 Contour SVT in 98....i see both sides to the argument, in the sense that the 16y/o with M3's abuse the shit out of them because they havent learned how to drive them and arent mature enough to handle taht kind of power. But **** it, if it doesnt get ya killed more power to ya. Its just a matter of not crossing the line of idiocy... ![]()

Sorry, I meant unexperienced drivers, I trust my life to other drivers on the road everyday. Anyone can wreck a car, BUT all things considered, someone able to control a vehicle is less likely to wreck, than one that is novice. anyone understand what Im sayin? |

| there is only one way to gain experience practice. i must say i used to race when i was in high school a lot honestly the reason i sold my lexus sc400 was because i was getting in trouble the principal lived near the "track" we used to race all the time illegally ofcoarse and knew my car she called my house and told my mom she feared for my life supposedly so i got busted and thats why i bought the lincoln navigator even tough it has 300hp its still not as fast as a coupe but my benzo is pretty nifty but now im more mature and experience. in high school i never steped down from a challenge why so i wouldnt be called a pussy but now i dont care i just walk away. if your gonna race just be alert and careful dont think your superman and are the shit. i have a cousin who races formula one or kart all over the world his name is adrian fernandez yall might heard of him hes mexican as i am he kiks ass hes sponsored by herdez were my dad is a business partner and tecate a mexican beer both companies are owned by the same group of peeps hes my hero from my dads side of the family. lates ![]() |

| All I have to say is that there is a reason why males under the age of 25 pay higher insurance premiums than any other group of individuals. If you don't know why here is a little background info. Your premiums are based on the probability that you will have an accident. Young males are the highest risk to have accidents. IT IS A FACT!!! You can't argue with this. I know most of you will think you don't belong in this group but generally speaking people who think they are good drivers end up having the accidents. I know most of you will talk about how many driving courses you have taken and all the miles you have driven, and even the number of hours you spent on the track. That is all great and good but the simple fact that most of you forget to take into consideration is the fact that there is SOOOOO much more you can assume when you are out on the track. While you are driving with the general public ANYTHING can happen. Driving fast through a neigborhood seems easy but who is to say a little kid isn't hiding behind a car ready to run across the street as you are barreling down the road. Or a dog escapes out of the back yard and darts across the street. Now when you are out on a track the chances of this happening is FAR less so you can concentrate more on driving, i.e. apexing a turn or downshifting into the proper gear. The point I am trying to make is ANYTHING can happen when you are driving on public roads. Back to the question. Would I give my child a nice car when they got their license???? NO!!! They first off need to EARN it. Secondly, they are not mature enough to UNDERSTAND the consequences of making bad decisions when behind the wheel. Kids that age believe they are invinsible that's why so many make bad decisions. When I got my license I got my mom's old Toyota van. Just by nature I am not a hyper kid. I drove it around normally. Didn't speed, or drive erratic out on the highway. Why was I this way?? The reason I was this way was because I knew my car wasn't fast and it wasn't a very stable car if driven agressively. My parents could have bought me a nice car but they made us earn EVERYTHING and I thank them for doing that. When I graduated from high school my parents bought me a 93 Acura Integra for a high school graduation/for being a good son (I gave my parents $14000 cash so that they could buy an investment property. I was 18 at the time and I earned all that money on my own. Can anyone say work-a-holic??? ) Well what do you know. As soon as I got that car and realized how well it handled and how fast it was. The FIRST day I had it I hit 110mph in it. Before then I had never gone over 75mph. EVERY chance I got I tried to race someone. I took corners faster than I ever had, accelerated faster than I ever had, and I did some rather daring manuvers in it in heavy traffic. Why did my behavior change so much??? Because I kinda had an idea of what the car could do, the problem was that I had NO IDEA of what I was capable of doing.I almost got into some SERIOUS accidents in it and I decided that I needed to be get something else before I killed myself. I got a 96 Accord sedan and I resorted back to my old driving habits. My point being that who knows what I would have done to myself, or others, had I kept that car. And that was only an Integra. Imagine what I would have done had I owned an M3. If I decide to have kids, when one of them turns 16 if they want a car they first, have to earn it themselves, and secondly, they will have to clear the car with me before they buy it. DAMN, that was long. Hope you read it all. ![]()

| I couldnt agree with the last post more. its all about learning your limits, and In a car with limits that are only achieved with high speeds and aggressive manuevers, you have a recipe for disaster. Just look through some of the posts...you see alot of kids trying to power slide around corners and shit in new M3's and end up wrecking their brand new cars. Once you learn, then by all means, if you have the money go for it...

| my whole life i have had dirtbikes, quads, and snowmobiles. i have always been a dumbass driving these machines too fast. always hurting myself. linelocking my dirtbike in my driveway. when i turned 17 my parents wouldnt let me buy a car, they gave me my moms old 95 audi a6 quattro. a perfectly fine car. not very fast, and 4 wheel drive so i couldnt even try and burnout. i drove this car for about 6 months until i found a 93 twin turbo RX7. now i know its not a bmw but most of you know RX7s are known to be pretty fast. as soon as i bought this car, actually i paid for half of it. my dad made me buy new tires for it, spending 800 bucks of your own money on rubbers for your car will teach u the value of not burning out and shit. anyway thats my story. in response to the question i think it really depends on the kid. when i was first got my liscence if i had a brand new m3 i prolly wouldnt be around anymore, niether would the car. also when kids drive their first RWD they should take it easy for a month, esp in the wet. |
