| All these posts about jealousy, this and that are not even what this thread is about. Stop thinking about your own situation for a moment. If your a parent you are not only responsible for yourself but other people. You want your kid to be happy. ..... impress his classmates whatever but you also want to insure that the kid lives past 18. In highschool did I need a car that did 0-60 in 6 secs? To go from my house to school? Probably not. Did I act incredibly stupid with that type of power? Hell the f YES. Would I give my kid the same car? hmmmmm thinking thinking....hmmmmmm It sounds hypocritical but I would buy him or her something that looks nice and gets him from A to B. (VW or Honda.) If your 16 or whatever and you have a m3 thats great more power to you. Just don't be a statastic. |

| If you make the money, enjoy it, share the wealth for your kids, when I'm a parent if i have the money i'll buy my kids an expensive car, and make them pay for it as much as they can, even if it's only 1% of the worth, they'll still appreciate it, because it'd still of been a lot of hours of their money in the car. I do not get jealous of people with nicer cars than mine, there's this one guy with a pimped out bimmer, it's a 330ci or something like that, seen him a couple times on the road, and i'd catch up to him, and one time talked to him at the lights, he had 280hp, and I had fun talking to him, it was all good, I wish I had his car, but I didn't get jealous, I was happy for him, it was sweet. Pretty soon I'm probably going to be getting a bimmer though, I'll be a happy man. Bimmer's rule, Whoever has the money to have one is lucky, but I don't care about you're age or where your from. Bimmer's rule!!!! |

| Man thats messed up, I'm 16 and I bought my BMW all myself. Grant it, I got a descently cheap one, only 10k, but I didn't care as long as its a Bimmer. So lets remember that not all 16 year olds are given BMW's..I earned mine..and proud of it! |

| Im 16 right now and live in one of the richest areas in USA. I drive a 1990 lincoln towncar which is my moms old car. My parents could afford to buy me a bmw but when i ask they say "when you get a job and the moeny you can get yourself one" It is so hard because of the number of people at my school who do have bmw's. I know of at least 15 easily. It is so hard seeing all these people with bmws that were handed to them and they could care less about them. Luckily some people who get them actually take care of them.

| read the book Millionaire Next Door. There is a section in there about lavishing your children with money and the *potential* consequences of doing so. You don't learn the value of money if its always given to you. When my kid is old enough to drive, I'm not buying him/her a car. If they really want one, they can get a job and buy it themselves like I did. Besides, why would I drop cash on my kid's car when I can add it to my car fund and upgrade ![]() |

| it matters if you are responsible enough to keep it.... my friend got a 95 m3 when he turned 16...i think he deserves one... he gets good grades in school, listens to his parents, over is a good kid...he babies the car...never takes it out in snow, sleet, hail....and only a couple times in rain....washes it every friday...is a really careful driver.... i think he deserves the car... even tho sometimes is pisses me off that ive been working my ass off for a year, 2 jobs and trying to gather as much money as possible...to get a descent car... but its all good...if teens deserve it and are responsible and trust-worthy...they should beable to get one
