The new m3 uses a v8 (S65), the m5, m6 used v10 (S85) and the old 8 series had v12 (M70, M73). They even had a V16! The older ones more suited for your use would be from the old e39 and e38s: 1992 - 3.0-4.0 L M60 1996 - 3.5-4.4 L M62 1998 - 4.9-5.0 L S62 Don't forget to post your upgrade journey here :-)

A V16 would be awsome but I have no desire to become air born. Plus I have to fit this hulk into an e36 318i. so I'll try to find some scrapped bmw with a V8. To make a nice drifting car. thoes are the engine codes that you posted or the cars that they come in?

Those are generic engine codes for the fleet. For example, if you are looking at m62, there are 3.5l engines all the way to 5.0. So the 3.5 would have engine code of M62B35. You can google up the details or read from wikipedia, they had good info on beemers. Generally you'd be looking at e39 5 series or the e38 7 series cars for these engines. Should be easy to come by. Squeezing a V8 into the e36 is not a walk in the park but many have done, even here in this forum. It'll be fun.

Around where I live every one wants well over 5000$ for a 540i. I only paid 3000$ for my 318. LOL Wish the wrecking yard had a site with online inventory. Will the M62B44 bolt onto my m42 tranny? even if It does ill need a new diff. to handle the POWER!!!

The 330 straight six will eat a LS1. Or buy a new M3, Or buy a M3GTR and figure how to get it street legal and lend it to me. BMW also made a 32 cylinder but it only fit German WWII war planes. Heck they made jet engines. Strip the V12 out of a Rolls they were made by BMW.
