difference between 1996 318i compact and sedan shocks

k well as is my 1996 e36 318 i.s just got super low springs (im currently off the road for abit) and i had the intention of shortening my shocks to adjust and make the springs captive.
then i saw some sports shocks that were shorter saving me the time and hassell off getting it done, but these were for the compact 318i rather then the sedan.
is there any difference between the compact and sedan? ive heard there is, if so is there anything i can do to make this purchase worth while? or just stick to shortning my shocks?

You can only use front shocks from a Compact on your Sedan.

The rear are E30-E36/5-E36/7 specifics.
