gear select button question

ok guys have now got my Z3 coupe...1999....2.8l auto.

S button selects sport mode..as i can tell difference with revs

E i assume is economy ?

M....this i cant quite work out....seems to leave car in high gear ??

please help, im sure this is a daft question , but i aint ever had bnw and no manual with this one

I have the E and M in one of my car's the E was described to me and being "Everyday Economy" driving where the car shifts and BMW "proper" points for each of the gears. while the M mode is the Manual mode, which starts of in second or third gear to prevent the rear tires from slipping during icy weather. as for the S i have no clue,
if you'd like i can scan the pages from the manual so you can read more about it.

cheers jaffa, this now makes sense...as the car feels as if its in wrong gear when in M

i am trying to source a manual now, so hopefully have one soon, but thanks for the offer.
