| its better for our engine to rev match... simple... if you dont you put extra stress on your engine and can actually use more oil.

| But it's also worse if you don't get it right. I do it out of habit. And to prevent my car from stalling when approching red lights.

| And im not even redlining it. Just blippin the throttle to the appropriate rev to match the gear...and this M3 don't dissapoint either....just a quick bump on the throttle, and its right where it needs to be....love that classic BMW throttle response

| Providing that you are matching revs correctly and smoothly, it is a healthy technique for the motor and trans. The motor/trans stress is reduced when removing engine braking through downshifting. Just do it right, dont grind your gears...and smooth sailing.

| as long as your gettin the revs closer to what it should be compared to what it would be without trying then your doin well... basically keep doin it and you learn quite quickly where it should be... sounds like you do it enough that you'd be at a comfortable level.

| I always do it, no matter what I am driving. Its just habbit, and it is better. Some times I drive my moms ranger, I do it in that. When I drive the E36, I do it in that.

| I hear that.....i do it in whatever im driving these days (past five years or so), and im suprised that im the only one around here that does! Everyone else just lets the clutch out against the motor.

| What do you mean by rev-matching. Rev-matching as with heel and toe or double clutching is a lot better than just downshifting but engine braking takes stress off the brakes and puts more on the drivetrain. 6 to 1 half dozen the other in my opinion. Tire wear and weight transfer usually dictates how I slow down. edit: My comparison was rev-matching and engine braking vs. shifting into neutral and braking. I'd say it's not good for a FF because it puts more stress on the front tires. Last edited by nousablenames13 : 02-06-2008 at 12:36 PM. |

| yeah its perfectly fine i do the same thing, i can let out the clutch very quickly and don't have to slow down immediately via engine braking if i'm already braking though i cant reach the gas pedal so i dont |
