325is or 318is?

Hey guys. It's been a while since I've been on here, so I've got quite a few questions. One of the things I was wondering about is wheter to keep my 92 318is. I have a guy right now who wants to trade me his 93 325is because he wants a 318is. Everything is pretty much equal about our cars. I'm wondering, would it be worth it to trade. Could I mod the 325 more? And would it be faster and sound nicer? Thanks.

Why would he want to trade his 325 for a 318? I don't know that just sounds kind of weired to me. Are you sure the 325 is in good working order? How well do you know this guy? I mean if the car is in as good of running order and is as mechanically sound as your car I would say jump on it. The 325 is a much better car than the 318.

Yah, that sounded weird to me also, but the guy just wants a 4 banger I guess. The car is in pretty good condition, I'm going to go check it out soon and test drive it. It has a clean title and clean Carfax, if that means anything. lol

If the car is in good shape than go for it. It is still just weired that someone would want to do that but his loss your gain

Yah, I'm really considering it too. However, he does have more miles than me, and my car is in better condition than his.

How many more miles does he have than you.

Well, he has 176k and my car has 167k. It has some minor cosmetic flaws, which don't really matter to me because I'm planning on repainting it and putting m3 stuff on there. The only thing that worries me is that he said it shakes between 40-50 mph, but it stops after that. I have no clue to what that could be, but it doesn't sound good. Lol.

Hmm well not enough difference in miles between the two to really make a difference. The shaking is bad but a small price to pay to figure out and fix when you are talking the performance difference you get going from a 318 to a 325.

That is true. Could it just be like from unbalanced tires? Maybe it just needs an alignment? And would I really feel the performance difference?

Without driving the car its hard to say. The vibration could be any number of things. As far as performance difference you should feel some. Don't expect a drastic difference but you shouldn't definitely feel the car pull a little more Don't forget you can also mod the hell out of the 325's 2.5 and get more power.

A shake that stops after a given speed is most likely not a balance issue. Kinda sounds like a bad wheel bearing, as they can do this. The best thing to do is to inspect it good. Jack it up, and have a look.

Hmm. I have a feeling I should go through with this trade. What do you all think?

I would go for it, but I would drive it first. Look it over REAL good. First, pull the dipstick and check the oil to see if its clean. If it is milky/watery be weary. Just make sure he is not trying to fuck you. Check it with a fine toothed comb.

Yah, that's what I'm planning to do. Both my older brothers are mechanics and have tons of experience with all kinds of cars, so I'll be sure they check it out and stuff.
