Petrol Gauge Not Working

Hey guys, how you all doing? I have this problem, my car has been standing for sometime now due to me not be at home and normally when i do this i disconnect the battery. This weekend passed i connected it up and i noticed the petrol gauge did not move amd i know there is about a half a tank of gas in it, what could it be? It lays on empty and does not move, please help,

Your fuel level sensor could be malfunctioning, but either way you have to get in the gastank, so I would replace the fuel pump and the rest of the assembly while you're in there.

Thanx dude for your advise, had it sorted today and it was the floats in the tank that was not syncronizing, but now i can see what is in the tank, LOL
