I have to say the E36 M3, we only had the E36, E46 and now the E92 in South africa, poor us. Anyway, a M is a M.

That is true. But we also have to keep in mind that the cars are much heavier than they were back them considering all the gimmicky electronic gadgets and gizmos and safety equipment they are burdening the car with.

Its actually pretty amazing that the M1 got 5th place. It was being compared to all the modern M-Cars and it is extremely old. To put that into perspective the e36 M3 is not even in thier top 5. So, I would say the M1 kicked some major ass for its age.

Correction. It had the block that when 2 cylinders were lopped off, was the F1 turboed 4 cylinder engine that won the championship in 1981 or 1983 I cant remember when. The Brabham car. It actually went beyond what the dyno could measure (1400 hp). And that engine in the ///M1 (M88) later got a revised fuel injection which later became the engine (S38) for the E28///M5, the E24///M6 and yet again revised for the E34 ///M5 which in Europe had 340 hp in its last incarnation. Also its the basis for the engine that powered the most successful touring car of all time. The E30 ///M3's S14. God I know way too much useless information haha.

Wait! What do you do to get the M1 engine over 1400hp?

To my knowledge I dont think the M88 was capable of that due to certain constraints, namely the mechanical fuel injection. TThe M10/S14 four cylinder block was the block they used for the F1 car in the early 80's that registered that amount. Not the 6 cylinder.

I've been around M cars before getting my driving license 7 years ago....To me the list would look like this:

- EURO E36 M3 (3.0L version not the 3.2L due to reliability issues, PREFERRABLY a GT version PLEASE)
- E30 M3 EVOII (just fucking look at it!!)
- E46 M3 (not a single negative input on this one)

The Z4M is proving to be a monster of an M car on our streets, and Z3M Coupe has the best balanced chassis of the M family, not to mention "RARE" factor. It's a tough choice here and it's all based on my emotions and experience on/off track. The E36 on autox/sprint tracks would lose to the E30, so if I'm thinking of a weekend warrior it's gotta be the E30 M3. Mind you we only get the Euro M3's, yeppie!! A friend of mine bought a '94 M3 that's been tuned by an old company called "Iding Power" and it made me fall in love to the extent of obsession with the E36 M3! It's just an insane machine, Iding Power just showed how a sleeper is properly built. The M5s are great in all their incarnations, but I'm more of a coupe fella. I just wish I didn't have that flaw

Each and every one of the M cars has its place in our hearts and no single review would ever be able to rule out a proper result! Any car with an "M" badge and a stick is what keeps us grinning ear to ear, regardless of what series! And that's a fact.

Oh, and I couldn't care less for the new "M" cars.......Not my cup of tea!

Great thread!

Yes, I too believe that all the M-Cars made after e46 are pretty pointless vehicles. M is for Motorsport and these things are just decadence and luxury. Even the new M3 is absurdly bloated and lacking driver focus in my opinion. Luckily the 1-series is coming to redeem some respect.

Huh? You mean they have created other //M cars other than the E30 M3? When did that happen?
