Spouses don't care about $$ spent?

After reading several forums, I'm curious about one thing. For those of you with a spouse/significant other, how do you get them to agree to the $$ used to mod out and upgrade these vehicles (or even buy a vehicle!). My wife is a complete anti-enthusiast when it comes any type of car! We have no kids, no CC bills, a mortgage, and make decent $$. What am I missing here??

I was brought up in a "vehicles mean everything" household and I am proud to wear this badge with honor today! My father had his own corvette shop for 30 years and my syblings and I weren't even allowed in the driveway if our car was dirty! Advance 25 years and I still love anything having to do with SCCA/NASA, track, autocross, HPDE racing! I've been on the track a couple of times and am hooked!!!

I want a weekend car/project so that I can enjoy what I love to do. Wife says no way

WHAT TO DO!!!!

Step up and tell her that you work hard and want a new car or you could go philsans5 route.

Just buy what you want and ride the fallout...
Or
Find cars she actually is interested in and angle it that way.
My missus hated the last car I had and went off her head when I spent money on it for anything other than fuel but then I got the BM and she let's me do what ever the hell I want to it. Simply because it's a car She likes being in too.

I'm working on her to start my Hot Rod in a couple of years. I'm looking at building a 32' hardtop with an M3 driveline.

Good Luck

As my good friend Chris once said......"Don't think, just do it!" You work for your money and therefor you deserve whatever you want....end of story.

I bet none. I haven't met a racer thats married 'round here, and met even fewer true enthusiasts. But I have seen 'em, and I'm jealous!

Man, if I could only find a girl who liked cars as much as I do, and not already married....

My girlfriend said she would never talk to me again if I bought another motorcycle, and will not even sit inside one of my cars (except my truck, it's big, safe, and reletively slow).

I told her "it was nice knowing ya". She didn't think it was funny, but I sure did. I'll get her into it, she just needs to get on the track with me....even if it takes handcuffs.

Don't show them the handcuffs or they might get kinky thoughts, which is a win-win situation.

If you are a car enthusiast and your wife will not allow you to spend any money on cars it sounds like you married an incompatible partner. If everything else about her is perfect then you need to lay down the law as a MAN and spend YOUR money on whatever you want to. IF it makes her hate you, then she's dumb. I think I speak for most men around here when I say, I'm single, mainly because I don't want to waste money on female bullcrap and don't want to have any resistance when it comes to spending my money on my car and other manly stuff. Far too many guys out there are totally whipped and are in relationships with controlling bitches that don't let them do anything. I for one will never allow this situation to come about in my life. Your life should be enjoyed not controlled. The job of your wife or significant other is to increase the joy and satisfaction in your life. If she doesn't do that job then she needs to get fired.

A realistic solution for your problem is to consider having two seperate bank accounts that are for your personal fun money in addition to the normal joint bank account that you undoubtedly share. Each of you can put some of your earnings into it and can do whatever you want with it no matter what, no questions asked, aside from buying hookers. This money is for activities that you both enjoy individually and do not share interest in. The only question is how much money is acceptable to funnel into these accounts.

Excellent advice so far. . except the divorce part, I think once I start making more $$, she'll just have to live with the decision. She knows how addicted I am to BMW's and may just have to kick me to the curb like she intends to do if I get another car.

If it wasn't meant to be. . . after 10 years of marriage. . . then it wasn't meant to be.

you have to lay the groundwork before the relationship takes off. My case is simple it is how it is, and many understand that it is just how it is

all my female friends know how addicted i am to cars and keep tellin me that as long as whoever i decide to forfiet part of my life to knows this before the game is on then it'll all be sweet no matter how much they complain afterwards (in most cases)...

oh and another route is to just buy her something nice at the same time as you splurge on yourself... that way she wont notice as much AND you will live a hapier life ... im only 18 and with the engineering jobs im looking at getting into after Uni (4weeks on 2weeks off ect.) i dont think ill have this problem for a while.

My girlfriend isn't into cars at all but knows how much passion I have for them. That is why she is more than happy for me to spend over 100k AUD on a 2nd hand M3. I have told her I want a new M3 and she says GO FOR IT. We earn good ding, so why not.

Your Mrs needs to realise it is not all about her.
