Got the Shaft!..Maybe

Well i purchased my first BMW and i was under the impression before going to look at it that it was an 89 325i.Wellll i get there and its a 325....It has a 2.7eta in it and im wondering what to do to get some more out of it. The only thing i have done is the exhaust. I was also wondering if a 2.8 head would help it at all, cause i can get one for 50$, but i dont know if it will fit or anything.Plzz Help!

Definitely got shafted. The 2.7 liter bit the bullet in 87. 2.5 liter was standard in 88. Someone must have swapped whatever they could find.

I dont think that this motor has ever been taken out, everything is stock and motor mounts have never been touched. But my big question is will the 2.8 head work on my 2.7?? Although the 2.7 runs alright, will smoke the tires off and i have had it to to 132mph so far. But i want mooooorrrrre!!

2.8 head? Like the one from the M52?
Or do you mean the 2.5 head from the M20? If so then you can do that, throw a turbo on there, since the compression will be about 8.5:1 with the 2.7 bottom end, and go fast.
Or, you can grab yourself an M/S 50/2 and throw that in there for a good bit more power/torque.

Im on a budget lol, about 1600$, so i figured rebuild top to bottom port and polish the head, get a dinan chip, headers, and new clutch. Think it will be fine??

It would be good for a decent refresh. You may want to throw a cam in there, since they are pretty cheap, while you are at it.
1600 will definitely cover a top end refresh.

I mean top and bottom end, and the kit comes with a reground schrick cam, but yea it should be decent then. The bottom end aint so hot right now. Mains are rattlin like crazy. But if anyone has any idea on what more to do then let me know.I might even bust my budget if i like the idea,but no forced induction.

I may not now whats best to go with on this BMW, but i only do things right. Ive rebuilt 7 motors from top to bottom. And blown a few up haha. I usually when i rebuild is take 1 week and be very careful. Im quite particular.

i gotta be quick its my daily commuter haha. I dont like to waste time lol. And it helps that i saved 3200$ just in case so money isnt a problem. By that i mean it wont hold me up.
