| Wasn't that quite the brief article?  Not sure what BMW would gain in obtaining Volvo save for the image that they are the safest cars around. Unless BMW wants to have a stable of FWD vehicles to sell globally for some odd reason.

| If any of this is true, I don't think Volvo is going to be melded into the BMW brand. It will simply be another manufacturer that BMW owns just like it owns MINI and Rolls Royce.

| Sounds interesting. Volvo commercials have been touting thier Euro-luxury and performance aspects which matches BMW's image and BMW has been touting its safety measures lately. BMW might just eat them up and say, "Hey, look we got Volvo and all thier super safe technology is in our our BMW's now!!. Have some laps around the track without hurting yourself if you crash!!" I could definitely see commercials like that being produced by BMW if this happens.

| Doesn't Ford own Jaguar and LandRover too? They should stick with the Euro brands and sell off a crappy domestic one. The only domestic cars they sell worth buying are the Mustang and Focus in my opinion.

but i think if ford sold off its own brand, just the domestic image of its beginning, would make the company look rediculous... plus, a lot of those "foreign" brands are fueled by guess and check research on they're crappier us domestic vehicles... i hear volvo penta engines are actually developed in the states... anyways... this is actually kind of funny, because bmw actually contributed to the range rovers a while back, using bmw tuned engines and trannys, then they realized it was a bad idea and sold it back to ford... and its really funny to drive the different suvs from the switch (i worked for a jaguar/land rover dealer) it could be good for bmw to buy volvo... volvo is actually a pretty well made car, they just don't have the greatest image in the states.... but once you go abroad, you see how popular they really are. if they were to acquire volvo, bmw would have more market share, and new technologies and researchers to contribute to bimmers too, really it could be cool
