Would a cop pull you over for rod-knock?

I know the title sounds dumb, but hear me out.

I dunno if I have rod knock or a loose exhaust piping somewhere, but this car of mine sounds utterly obnoxious. It sounds like a rod-knock video on youtube, except profoundly louder, except I can redline it all day, and this happened weeks ago, the noise becoming worse. I've also had an exhaust related rub under the car for a year or so, maybe causing it to come loose somewhere.

My main question is: Would rod-knock be so loud that if you are driving @ 55mph-60mph, @ 2.50-3krpms, that a cop at least 10 car lengths behind you, an 1/8th of a mile or maybe a bit shorter, would pull you over for the loudness of your car? Because we all know they pull people for running no exhaust.

So basically, is rod knock so loud that a cop would mistake it for no exhaust or loose exhaust, on a 2.5liter engine, from 10 car lengths behind you?

In all seriousness, a cop can pull you over for pretty much anything. It's up to his discretion (which leaves a very broad range of possibilities open) to throw the lights on and pull someone over. If your car sounds like it doesn't have a muffler, you're probably going to get stopped and you will be issued a warning to get the car fixed. I doubt you would get a fine the first time you were stopped for something like this.

With that being said, every cop/jurisdiction is a bit different on how stringent they are with pulling people over. In many locations, cops are too busy with bigger issues to worry about a loud bimmer on the highway. On the flip side, there are many places where cops have nothing better to do than eat donuts and fine people for otherwise minuscule things (ie - a loud car).

Bottom line? Just get the car fixed ASAP. If you do get stopped, use some of the following lines to buy yourself out of a ticket...

"I have the parts ordered through my local dealer and my appointment to have the car fixed is for next week"

"I just started hearing this noise today and I'm on my way home to check out the car"

"I am King Ali-Jawa Ubba Warner Vintopia from Nigeria. If you let me go this one time, and provide me with your bank account number, I will have my US ambassador relations investor deposit the net sum of $1.7 million dollars into your account"

he may pull you solely for the noise pollution. Then possibly cite you for an equipment violation (fix-it) ticket. It depends on how much a cunt he is.

Regarding the police, it depends on your state law and/or also any city/county ordinances.

Regarding the car problem, it's probably the exhaust. You have a rusted out hole in the exhaust pipe that's getting larger, thus, it's getting louder.
